Thailand and Japan win singles titles in Yonex Vietnam Open
Thailand's rising star Khosit Phetpradab made up for the disappointment of losing the Sea Games gold medal match to win the men's singles title in the Yonex Vietnam Open in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday.
The Thai third seed defeated compatriot and 10th seed Suppanyu Avihingsanon 21-15, 21-19 for the Vietnam title in 51 minutes.
In the Sea Games men's singles final played at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur last month Khosit was beaten by Indonesia's top see Christie Jonatan 19-21, 16-21.
Japan's Sayaka Takahashi lived up to her top billing in the Vietnam Open to bag the women's single title. The Japanese disappointed the home fans with a 21-9, 21-14 victory over local favourite Vu Thi Trang.
Indonesia won the men's doubles and the mixed doubles titles. Thailand also clinched a grand double by winning the women's doubles.
In the men's doubles the Indonesian combo of Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pangkaryanira-Ade Yusuf, the seventh seeds, pulled off an upset 12-21, 21-16, 23-21 win over Chinese Taipei's third seeded pair of Liao Min Chun-Su Cheng Heng in a 65-minute thriller.
The mixed doubles was an all-Indonesia affair with Alfian Eko Prasetya-Melati Daeva Ektavianti snatching a 21-14, 21-14 win over unseeded Riky Widianto-Masita Mahmudin.
Thailand's second title in the tournament came through fifth seeds Chayanit Chaladchalam-Phataimas Muenwong in the women's doubles - defeating Indonesia's Della Destiara Haris-Rizki Amelia Pradipta 21-16, 21-19 in the final.
