Towards Badminton Excellence in Asia

The Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT) was the gracious host to 15 coaches from five countries – Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand for the Badminton Asia Top Coaches Forum 2017 with the theme “Towards Excellence”.

The excellence it was those who spoke at the Sept 30-Oct 1 forum in the city of Bangkok with BAT president speaking at a keynote address. The Thai badminton supremo Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul was recently elected into the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is the first woman from Thailand to be elected into the IOC.

The forum was organized by Badminton Asia in collaboration with the BAT.

Badminton Asia has been gaining recognition and reputation for its aggressive drive to take the shuttle sport to all corner of the Asian continent and it has been bearing fruit with its “Shuttle Time” and the “Asia Olympic Project” programmes.

The need for quality coaches comes into picture with question. With it comes the need to have more coaches for the sport to develop further. The coaches also need to be well equipped with the current sporting knowledge to ensure that the game is played according to the rules and regulations of the sport, which is enjoyed by both sexes.

Today’s game of badminton is built on a player’s ability to absorb the mental and physical aspects to thrive on one of the fastest growing sport in the region. With this in mind Badminton Asia organized this forum for the second year consecutively with BAT.

The theme “Towards Excellence” came with an objective – to gather and share and evaluate the latest techniques, methodology and also philosophy and to further enhance coaching and bring the “extra edge” in the development of badminton today.

Badminton Asia expressed its gratitude to BAT for their cooperation and participation in the forum, which also saw the presence of two well-known badminton personalities in the region and need no introduction as both are household names in the badminton world. The two aces, Boonsak Ponsana from Thailand and Koo Kien Keat of Malaysia – who shared their invaluable experience on their playing days and what is required to become an effective coach.

Badminton Asia will continue to strive “TOWARDS EXCELLENCE” and further enhance its productivity.
