China claim 14th Uber Cup crown
KUNSHAN: The Uber Cup remained in China as the defending champions outplayed South Korea 3-1 in the final here for their 14th title in the world team event for women.
The win could not have come at a better time for China who are reeling from their shock exit in the Thomas Cup. China were the overwhelming favourites to complete the double but the men's team failed to make the grade.
Olympic champion, Li Xuerui collected the first point for China in after recovering from being a set to beat Sung Ji-hyun 14-21, 21-13, 21-10 in 58 minutes.
The Koreans drew level in the first doubles tie when Jung Hyung-eun-Shin Seung-chan came out victorious over Jian Qing-Zhao Yunlei 16-21, 21-17, 25-23. in a marathon 94 minute match.
Wang Shixian regained the lead and restored China's confidence by winning the second singles against Kim Hyo-min 21-13, 21-12 in 45 minutes.
China sealed the title when their second doubles pair Chen Qingchen-Tan Yuangting strolled to a 21-14, 21-16 win over Chang Ye-na-Lee So-hee in 51 minutes.
