Asian badminton giants led by defending champions China made mince meat of their opponents on the first day of the BWF World Junior Mixed Team championships which began in Bilbao, Spain on Wednesday.
It was a stroll for the Chinese in their clean sweep of Canada in their opener in Group A1 match while runners-up Indonesia were equally impressive in their 5-0 whitewash of Norway in their Group F1 opener.
Japan who won the brone medal at the last championships in Peru, were just too strong for New Zealand and came off 5-0 winners.
Other Asian giants like Malaysia and South Korea also registered 5-0 wins in their respective group matches against Mexico (Group E1) while the Koreans were also in terrific form – winning both their Group F2 matches against Sri Lanka and Algeria by 5-0 margins.
Thailand blaned Ukraine 5-0 in their opening Group H1 match while Hong Kong proved unbeatable against Georgia with a 5-0 victory in Group C2. Singapore whitewashed Peru 5-0 in another Group C2 match.
