China swept four of the five titles at stake in the Yonex Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold in Basel on Sunday with five-time world champion Lin Dan, 33, exacting sweet revenge over his 21-year-old compatriot Shi Yuqi to win the men's singles crown.
Just last week Shi Yuqi pulled off a stunning 24-22, 21-11 win over the Chinese legend in the semi-finals in the prestigious Yonex All-England Badminton Championships in Birmingham. The defeat denied Lin Dan a dream final against World No 1 Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia.
However, Lin Dan, who was top seed in the Swiss Open, showed that he is still the master of the shuttle sport with a 21-12, 21-11 win over Shi Yuqi in a final that lasted only 31-minutes.
There was also joy for Lin Dan's compatriot Chen Xiaoxin in the women's singles final. The unseeded Xiaoxin defeated third seed and reigning world junior champion Chen Yufei 21-19, 21-14 in 53 minutes to bag her first Grand Prix Gold title.
Except for the mixed doubles which went to Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai, China also won the men's and women's doubles.
The third seeded Thai pair carved out an impressive 21-18, 21-15 win over Indonesian's second seeds Praveen Jordan-Debby Susanto in 40 minutes.
The men's doubles was also an all-China affair with top seeds Chai Biao-Hong Wei coming back from a set down to beat unseeded Liu Cheng-Zhang Nan 13-21, 21-16, 21-15 in 54 minutes.
In the women's doubles final top seeds Chen Qingchen-Jia Yifan stopped the Stoeva sisters from Bulagaria – Gabriela and Stefani 21-16, 21-15 in a 37-minute affair.
