Champions Thailand to meet Malaysia for women’s team gold in SEA Games

Defending champions Thailand will once again face Malaysia for the women's team gold in a repeat of the 2015 Sea Games final.

The top seeded Thais thrashed Singapore 3-0 while Malaysia cruised past Indonesia by a similar margin in the semi-finals played at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Wednesday.

In the quarter-finals played on Tuesday the Malaysians crushed Myanmar 3-0 while Singapore defeated Vietnam 3-1. Thailand and Indonesia drew byes in the quarter-finals. 

The Thais who beat Malaysia 3-0 in the final in Singapore in 2015, are once again the hot favourites for the title Twill be a repeat final of the last Sea Games in the women's team final between defenow in doubt.nding champions Thailand and Malaysia after both won their respective semi-final matches.

Soniia Cheah , who is having good run in the Sea Games upset Fitriani Fitriani 21-17, 21-17 for Malaysia's first point. It set the tone and Malaysia earned got a free point in the women's doubles when Ni Ketut Maheswari Istarani-Rosyita Eka Putri Sari conceded their doubles match against Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei.

The Malaysians were leading 7-5 in the first set when Rosyita injured her left knee and was forced to quit to hand Malaysia their second point.
 
Rosyita's partcipation in the individual events is now in doubt but head coach Eng Hian will only decide after the medical report.

With Malaysia 2-0 up Goh Jin Wei turned on the heat and walked away with a 21-16, 21-13 win over Hanna Ramadhani in the second women's singles.

Defending women's singles champion Busanan Ongbamrungphan started Thailand's rout of Singapore as she nailed a 21-7, 21-12 win over Yeo Jia Min in the first singles.

Point number two was clinched by Puttita Supajirakul-Sapsiree Taerattannachai who won 21-12, 21-17 over Ong Ren-He-Crystal Wong Jia Ying before Nitchaon Jindapol secured the winner – crushing Grace Chua Hui Zhen 21-4, 21-15 in the second singles.
