Even before the E-Plus Badminton Asia Team Championships get underway in Alor Setar, Malaysia on Tuesday (Feb 6) 11 officials are undergoing "tests" to scale greater heights in their career as badminton officials.
Their love for the shuttle sport and more importantly to ensure that the game is played according to the rules and regulations of the sport, these officials need to be in the "best of shape" in terms of knowledge.
These are the officials who have made the beautiful game of badminton, a sport that cuts through racial, cultural and religious barriers, to unify people throughout the world
In conjunction with the E-Plus Badminton Asia Team Championships at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium, Alor Setar in the beautiful northern state of Malaysia, the Asian badminton body has taken the opportunity to bring two groups of officials for appraisal and mentoring.
The first group of six candidates from Badminton Asia Certificated to Badminton World Federation (BWF) will be vying for the next upgrading to BWF A officials while the second group of five candidates will vie for upgrading to BWF C officials.
The 11 candidates come from nine countries with Malaysia and Hong Kong China having two candidates each for the Appraisal and Mentoring course from Feb 3 to Feb 12. Indonesia, China, South Korea, Japan, India, Chinese Taipei and Iran have one candidate each.
