Best of Asia: Yugo Kobayashi

Yugo Kobayashi is a Japanese badminton player who is currently ranked #4 in the men’s doubles World Rank and #12 in the men’s doubles World Tour Rank. Throughout his badminton career, he is partnered with Takuro Hoki in the men’s doubles. 

 

Since young, Yugo Kobayashi has had talent in the world of badminton. In 2012, Yugo and the #2 ranking in men’s singles, Kento Momota succeeded in bringing Japan’s name to the world stage by winning the 2012 Asian Junior Championships (team category). His performance skyrocketed after Yugo Kobayashi is paired with Takuro Hoki for the men’s doubles. 

 

In 2019, these pair have also won several titles including finishing 2nd at the BWF World Championships and 3rd at the Indonesia Open and Malaysia Open. 

 

Their name rose after winning various events towards the end of 2021, they were able to win 4 titles out of 5 finals they played in 2021. 

 

The first victory was won at the Denmark Open defeating Kim Astrup/Anders Rasmussen. The second title was obtained after defeating “the Minions” Marcus Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo at the Indonesia Masters. The third victory was secured after defeating the Minions, again, at the BWF World Tour Finals. Lastly, they won the fourth title and became the World Champion after defeating China’s men’s doubles He Ji Ting/Tan Qiang at the BWF World Championships 2021.
