Perfect matrimonial gift for Soon Huat-Shevon with Mixed Doubles crown PERODUA Malaysia Masters

Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie perfectly celebrated their recent matrimony when they captured the Mixed Doubles crown of the PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2024 here at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

The Malaysian professional pair, who got married earlier this year, edged out Rinov Rivaldy-Pitha Haningtyas Mentari from Indonesia 21-18, 21-19 in the final.

For their effort, Soon Huat-Shevon picked up the USD 33,180 prize money.

“It feels great going up on to podium for Malaysia. We have not thought about where we want to go for our honeymoon yet. Our focus is solely on the Singapore and Indonesia Open next,” said Soon Huat.

Malaysia’s hope for further cheer fell short in the Men’s Singles when Lee Zii Jia fell to world No. 1 and current Olympic Champion Viktor Axelsen from Denmark in the final.

The 30-year-old showed that he is still the man to beat when he picked up his second Men’s Singles PERODUA Malaysia Masters crown and his first title for the year after beating Zii Jia 21-6, 20-22, 21-13.

Axelsen first won the PERODUA Malaysia Masters title in 2018.

In the meantime, Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi from Japan were fully stretched by South Korea’s Lee Yu-lim-Shin Seung-chan before they were able to win their first Women’s Doubles PERODUA Malaysia Masters crown.

It took Iwanaga-Nakashini an energy-sapping 96 minutes before they were able to add to the Spain Masters title they won earlier this year with a 17-21, 21-19, 21-18 victory.

On the other hand, Wang Zhi Yi from China added the Women’s Singles gold medal crown of the PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2024 to the Asian Championships title she won earlier.

The current world No. 8 fended off India’s Pusarla V. Sindhu 16-21, 21-5, 21-16 in the final.

The final of the Men’s Doubles saw Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen from Denmark emerging victorious with a straight-out 21-18, 21-14 win over South Korean duo Jin Yong-Na Sung-seung.
