Japan top seeds in Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships
Defending champion Japan is the top seed in the Badminton Asia Tong Yun Kai Cup Mixed Team Championships to be held in Hong Kong China from March 19-24.
The seedings were released by Badminton Asia on Feb 20 (Wednesday) - based on the latest BWF world ranking seedings dated Feb 19 (Tuesday).
Japan tops the list with 448, 817 points.
In the absence of runners-up Korea, China beaten semi-finalists at the last edition of the mixed team championships held in Ho Chi Minh City in 2017, is seeded second with 442,562 points.
Beaten quarter-finalists Indonesia with 351,378 points is the third seed followed by Chinese Taipei (332,318 points) in the fourth spot.
Thailand, semi-finalists in Ho Chi Minh, is ranked fifth with 293,418 points followed by India (262, 590); Malaysia (255,548); Hong Kong China (206,716); Singapore (113,310); Sri Lanka (46,860), Macau China (23,200).
Total ranking points are based on the highest one men's singles and one women's singles, one men's and one women's doubles and one mixed double from member associations.
This year's championships has drawn 11 teams.
Korea is skipping the meet as it clashes with an important local tournament.
Also skipping the championships is Vietnam.
The draw for the Mixed Team Championships will be conducted on Feb 28 (Thursday) at the World Trade Centre Club, 38/F, World Trade Centre, 280 Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong China.
In the final in Ho Chi Minh City, Japan defeated Korea 3-0. Japan stunned favorites China 3-1 while the Koreans beat Thailand by a similar margin in the semi-finals.
