Malaysia's Jin Wei stuns Nitchaon to make Yonex Sunrise Indonesia Masters final

Reigning world junior champion Goh Jin Wei pulled off a stunning straight sets 21-18, 21-15 win over second seeded Nitchaon Jindapol of Thailand to reach the women's singles final in the USD120,000 Yonex Sunrise Indonesia Masters in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan on Saturday.

The 32 minute match saw the 16-year-old Malaysian from Penang display maturity in her game which has made her a rising star in the shuttle sport.

Jin Wei is playing in her first Grand Prix Gold event and will face another Thailand star in the making Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the final. Busanan is the top seed and hot favourite to win the title.

The 20-year-old Busanan fought a three-set battle against compatriot and seventh seed Pornpawee Chochuwong but did enough to win 16-21, 21-15, 21-15.

In the mixed doubles semi-finals Malaysia's third seeds Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing defeated eighth seeds Edi Subaktiar-Richi Puspita Dili of Indonesia 21-19, 21-15 in a 45-minute encounter.

The Malaysians will face Indonesia's second seeds Ronald Alexander-Melati Daeva Oktavianti who defeated compatriots and fourth seeds Hafiz Faisal-Shela Devi Aulia 22-20, 21-16.

The men's doubles semi-finals saw the fairy tale run of Malaysia's Chooi Kah Ming-Low Juan Shen come to an end. The Malaysians lost to China's Hang Chengkai-Zhou Haodong 21-18, 15-21, 21-19 after a 53 minute battle.

There was a major upset when China's 12th seeded Huang Yuxiang sent top seed Wei Nan of Hong Kong out of contention with a hard fought 21-11, 18-21, 22-20 win.

It will be an all-China men's singles final for Yuxiang against compatriot Shi Yuqi for the title. Shi Yuqi defeated Zhao Jun Peng 21-11, 15-21, 21-12 in the other semi-final.
