Most of the limelight are much focused in the court where the players are battling out for the
Mixed Team and Individual events of the SCG Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2016
ongoing in Bangkok, Thailand. Many times there are unsung heroes in the court which are
gone unnoticed. Those are the referees and umpires who ensure the matches runs smoothly
and accordingly to the rules and laws and badminton. They are the ones to ensure fair play on
court, and enabling players to perform their very best.

Badminton Asia constantly ensures that Asian technical officials are well trained and qualify
to serve is various tournament not only around the Asian region but also around the world.
With that, during this Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2016, there is two courses,
which runs concurrently; the Umpires Accreditation and Referees Accreditation.
For the umpires’ course, 12 candidates from around Asia attended the theory and practical
exams and is also serving for the Championships as part of the assessment process.
The development of referees by having the accreditation course at the same will ensure the
continuity of technical officials from present to the nearest future. This time 11 candidates
from all regions were present and they will be the budding future group of referees to serve in
the world of badminton.

A tournament runs successfully when all parties involved play their role, which involves
personnel for logistics, protocol, management, presentation etc…, and also the Technical
Officials.
