Local favourite and top seed Hsu Jen Hao gave Taiwan supporters plenty to cheer when he earned a quarter-final clash against Malaysia's former international Tan Chun Seang in the Taipei Masters Grand Prix at the Hsing Chuang Gymnasium in Taipei on Thursday.

The 25-year-old Jen Hao carved out a straight set 11-9, 11-9, 11-6 win in 32 minutes over compatriot Teng Shih Hua under the Badminton World Federation's (BWF) new scoring system – the 11-point best-of-five system.

Chun Seang knocked out another homester in the second round – defeating Shih Kuei Chun with a come-from-behind 9-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 win in 34 minutes.
