Srikanth in quarters – thanks to Wing Ki’s ankle injury

India's top seed K. Srikanth was on court for three minutes to book his place in the men's singles quarter-finals when Vincent Wong Wing Ki of Hong Kong China retired with the score 7-2 in the Indian's favour in their second round match in the Wuhan City of Automobile Badminton Asia Championships in Wuhan on Thursday.

In the quarter-finals on Friday the Indian is likely to Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei, the fifth seed. Chong Wei, the recently crowned Commonwealth Games champion, is playing Indonesia's Anthony Ginting later in the day.

If Chong Wei gets past Ginting it will be a repeat clash of the Commonwealth Games final in Gold Coast, Australia. Chong Wei beat Srikanth 19-21, 21-14, 21-14 for his third gold medal in the men's singles in the Games.

Srikanth was all smiles with his easy march into the last eight as he hardly raised a sweat in his seven points.

"It is nice to be in the quarters…I knew Vincent was injured as he told me about his ankle injury," said Srikanth.
