Malaysia off to a roaring start

Malaysia took their first step towards their quarter-final target in Pembangunan Jaya Raya Badminton Asia Junior Championships in the mixed team event with an easy 5-0 win over Myanmar in Group A on Saturday.

Myanmar replaced Mongolia in the group after Mongolia could not make to Jakarta in time due to flight snags. Mongolia, however, will compete in the individual events which begin on July 18.

Malaysia and China, who had beaten Myanmar also by a 5-0 margin in the morning, will square up on Sunday to decide the Group A champions.

In other matches played in the evening, Japan whitewashed Singapore in Group D while Thailand outclassed Hong Kong China for their second win in Group B.  The Thais had beaten Macau China 5-0 earlier in the morning.

In another Group B match, Chinese Taipei also registered their second win in Group with a 5-0 defeat of Macau China 5-0.
