Mighty China win three individual titles in Badminton Asia Junior Championships

Mixed Team champions China showed their might in the individual finals – winning the first three finals – the mixed doubles, the men's doubles and the women's singles in the Pembangunan Jaya Raya Badminton Asia Junior Championships at the Jaya Raya Sports Hall in Bintaro, Jakarta on Sunday.

The men's doubles and the women's finals were all-China affairs while the first tie of the day – the mixed doubles saw China's second seeds Guo Xinwa-Liu Xuanxuan beat Korea's Wang Chan-Jeong Na-eun 15-21, 21-19, 21-15 for the title in 66 minutes.

China's head coach cum team manager Wang Wei was all smiles after the win and said: "Our players showed tremendous team spirit and determination to come back from a game down to win."

Many would have expected a tame affair in the men's doubles but defending champions and top seeds Di Zijian-Wang Chang were taken the distance before prevailing 18-21, 24-22, 21-19 against compatriots Liang Weikeng-Shang Yichen.

"It was not easy but we are proud and happy to have retained the title. Our opponents gave us a tough fight. However, we checked out emotions and got back into the fight for the decider for this exciting win," said Di Zijian.

The women's singles was a tame affair between second-seeded Wang Zhiyi and third seed Zhou Meng. It was a stroll for Wang Zhiyi in her 21-9, 21-18 win in 38 minutes.
A delighted Wang Wei said: "We had aimed for three titles in the individual events and we have achieved that after winning the mixed team gold. It is a big boost to our juniors development."
