NANNING (23rd May 2019) – Thailand’s Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul was elected the BWF Deputy President at the world governing body's AGM here today. Khunying is also the President of the Badminton Association of Thailand.
Khunying, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), received a total of 176 votes while China's Zhang Jun, the Chinese Badminton Association President and two-time Olympic gold medallist, obtained 88 votes.
In 2017, Khunying became the first Thai woman to be elected as the IOC member.
The BWF Deputy President’s post fell vacant after Peru’s Gustavo Delgado stepped down last year.
