Asians make a clean sweep in Indonesia Open

Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei fought a 91-minute marathon battle to beat Anders Antonsen of Denmark in the men's singles final which assured Asia's clean sweep of all the titles in the USD1.250,000 Indonesia Open which ended in Jakarta on Sunday.

The World No 3, seeded fourth in Jakarta, defeated the Dane 21-18,  24-26, 21-15 for the title. It was the only final that had a European in the final but Tien Chen rose to the occasion to pocket USD87,500 in prize money.

The women's singles final was between Japan's fourth seed Akane Yamaguchi who turned the tables on India's fifth-ranked P.V. Sindhu. The Japanese put an end to her four-match losing streak to the lanky Indian with a 21-15, 21-16 win in 51 minutes.

It was a fairy tale run for Yamaguchi in Jakarta, In the semi-finals, she packed off World No 1 and defending champion Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei with 21-9, 21-15 win. Rio Olympics silver medallist and last year's World Tour Finals winner Sindhu knocked out second seed Chen Yufei of China with a 21-9, 21-10 win over this year's All-England winner.

Earlier Japan her clinched the women'doubles title. In an all-Japan final No 2 seeds, Yuki Fukushima-Sayaka Hirota retained their title when they defeated their third-seeded compatriots and Rio Olympic champions Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi 21-16, 21-18 for the USD92,500 prize money. The losers took home USD43,750.

China's top seeds Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong needed only 31 minutes in their 21-13, 21-18 win over second seeds Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping to earn USD92,500 in the mixed doubles final.

Indonesia celebrated when world No 1 and top seeds Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo retained the men's doubles title with a 21-19, 21-16 win over All-England champions Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan and went home USD92,500 richer.
