Twelve candidates from 12 Members are currently in Surabaya, the capital city of East Java in Indonesia for a big "test" in their umpiring career – hoping to get through an appraisal from accredited to certificated Badminton Asia Umpires.
The twelve come from China, Chinese Taipei, India, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Jordan, Iran, Bangladesh, and the Maldives.
The appraisal is being done in conjunction with Badminton Asia Under 17 & Under 15 Junior Championships which began at GOR Bulutangkis Sudirman in Surabaya on Dec 11 and ends on Dec 16.
The theory part of the appraisal for the upgrading began on Dec 8 and ended on Dec 10 while the practical sessions began with the tournament proper on Wednesday (Dec 11).
Malaysia's Ms. Yau Lin Na and Mr. Teo Kian Joo are the course conductors for the appraisal.
Those who make the grade in Surabaya will be selected for the next step of upgrading ( Badminton Asia Certification Course) which will be done at the Badminton Asia Championships scheduled for April 2020 in Wuhan, China.
