This young talent from India is only 15 years old, and is already world #4 on the women’s singles and #11 in the mixed doubles in BWF’s junior ranking. With a career win of 41 matches, Tasnim Mir is one of Asia’s best junior players!
The player from Mehsana (Gujarat) said that she started playing badminton at a very young age of just 7 years old, with the support of her family. From then on, with hard work and training, she’s quickly found success. In 2018, she had an incredible breakthrough in her junior career.
At the Badminton Asia Junior U17 and U15 Championships, she made it to the quarter finals of the women’s singles competition, losing to Korean player Ae Lin Kim. However, in the same competition, she went on to win a gold medal at the women’s doubles event with partner Meghana Reddy Mareddy. It was an incredible achievement for a player who just started out her badminton career.
But 2018 only marked the beginning for her, as she found even greater success the following year. In 2019, she reached the quarter finals of the Woncheon Yonex Korea Junior Open International Challenge, where she lost to Thai player Benyapa Aimsaard. However, that same year, she won the Dubai Junior International Series title for singles AND mixed doubles with partner Ryan Rashid. But it didn’t stop there. At the end of the year, she lifted the gold for the women’s singles title at the Badminton Asia Junior U17 and U15 Championships.
Last year, before COVID-19 lockdowns, she also won the President Cup Nepal Junior International series and managed to reach the semi finals of the Dutch Junior International 2020 in March.
According to thebridge.in, she’s now currently home and taking online training sessions hosted by the Badminton Association of India. On top of that, she’s also focusing on her school work online: “My school in Gujarat has been very supportive of my playing career. I can take tests any time and the teachers have given me the option to study online as well,”.
We wish her all the best of luck with her badminton career and school! Tasnim Mir has a very bright future ahead and we can’t wait to see her achieve even more greatness!
