THE BEST OF ASIA’S JUNIORS: RAHMAT HIDAYAT (INDONESIA)

Rahmat Hidayat is an Indonesian player. At 17 years of age, he is currently ranked #12 in the men’s doubles junior ranking. With 76 career wins so far in men’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles, Hidayat is one of Asia’s best junior players!

In 2016, when he just started his junior career, Hidayat was already a promising player. At the JAKARTA OPEN JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL 2016 (U17 & U15), him and his partner Muhammad Habibie Ananda IRHAM made it to the round of 16; an already good start to a player’s career.

The following year, Hidayat continued to compete in various tournaments such as the PEMBANGUNAN JAYA RAYA INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR GRAND PRIX 2017 (U19) with partner Ananda Kusuma Atmadja POHAN and in 2018 at the VICTOR EXIST JAKARTA OPEN JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018 alongside his men’s doubles partner Davin RUTAMA.

However, it wasn’t until 2019 when thins started to really take off for the young player. At the PEMBANGUNAN JAYA RAYA JUNIOR GRAND PRIX 2019, with his partner Febi SETIANINGRUM, they defeated compatriots Muhammad Gibran ARFIANSYAH/Aisyah Salsabila Putri PRANATA to lift the title as they won in the finals 15-21, 21-17, 21-19 in just over 45 minutes! The win was an amazing start to the year.

He lifted another trophy again with Setianingrum at the VICTOR EXIST JAKARTA JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL SERIES when they defeated Gerardo Rizqullah HAFIDZ/Sabrina Ajeng TAKIRA 21-17, 21-12 in just under 30 minutes. The winning just didn’t stop as he also lifted another trophy at the DAIHATSU ASTEC REGIONAL JUNIOR U13,U15,U17 2019 (YOGYAKARTA) with a different partner, this time Davin RUTAMA. This goes to show his incredible talent and ability to win with whomever he plays with.

Him and Rutama also had back to back success after lifting the WONCHEON YONEX KOREA JUNIOR OPEN INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE 2019 after defeating Korean pair Pyeong Kang CHOI/Yoo Jun LEE. In 2020, the success continued on for the 17 year old. At the Italian Junior 2020, he collected a silver medal. Not long after, he lifted another gold at the YONEX DUTCH JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL 2020 with Muhammad Rayhan Nur FADILLAH after defeating their Malaysian opponents. He was also a runner-up at the German Junior in March of 2020.

Although he’s only just started, he’s already collected so many medals in his career. If his junior career is already filled with success, we can imagine just how much better he will be once he competes in the senior tournaments. We wish him all the best.
