It was more than a decade; it was 12 years to be exact.
But after a long, long wait, Malaysia finally landed the Men’s Doubles crown of the Malaysia Masters through unlikely pair of Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun.
In the all-Malaysian final and backed by a vociferous crowd at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Wei Chong-Kai Wun stayed their nerves before powering past top national duo Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik.

In the keenly contested affair, world No. 8 Wei Chong-Kai Wun took the first set 21-11 before the Olympic bronze medallists Aaron-Wooi Yik returned the favour in the second set, 21-15.

However, Wei Chong-Wai Kun kept it tight in the third set to win 21-16 to add the Malaysia Masters crown to the Indonesia Masters they won earlier.
In the meantime, China was just irresistible as they swept to the rest of the four titles in Malaysia – the Men’s Singles, the Women’s Singles, the Women’s Doubles, and also the Mixed Doubles.
In the Men’s Singles final, Li Shi Feng crushed former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth of India 21-11, 21-9 in just 36 minutes for China’s first-ever Men’s Singles title at the Malaysia Masters.

It was anything but straightforward in the final of the Women’s Singles with Wang Zhiyi outplaying world No. 3 Han Yue 13-21, 21-13, 21-18 to defend the title she won last year.

Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning then clinched the Women’s Doubles with the world No. 1 strolling past compatriots Jia Yifan-Zhang Shuxian 21-17, 21-18.
In the final of the Mixed Doubles, Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping were made to work hard for their victory before beating Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin 21-17, 14-21, 21-16.
