Badminton Asia Umpire Assessment Panel Meeting 2025

The Badminton Asia Umpire Assessment Panel Meeting 2025 was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 7 to 9 November 2025. The meeting gathered members of the Badminton Asia Umpire Assessment Panel to discuss strategic directions and future initiatives for the development of Technical Officials across the continent.

The session commenced with a welcoming address by Mr. Chooi Weng Sheng, Chief Operating Officer of Badminton Asia, followed by opening remarks from Ms. Yau Lin Na, Chair of the Umpire Assessment Panel.

 

A key focus of the meeting was the review of the Technical Officials Strategic Alignment Plan (2025–2028) — a roadmap outlining Badminton Asia’s continuous efforts to strengthen officiating standards and development pathways within the region.

The reviewed plan emphasizes:
•⁠ ⁠Increasing the number of international Technical Officials in developing Member Associations
•⁠ ⁠Establishing structured pathways, mentorship, and training workshops for umpires
•⁠ ⁠Recruiting regional Course Conductors to deliver courses in local languages
•⁠ ⁠Addressing referee and umpire retirements through succession planning
•⁠ ⁠Enhancing knowledge-sharing via refresher courses and virtual learning programs

The meeting reaffirmed Badminton Asia’s ongoing commitment to building a strong and sustainable Technical Officials ecosystem — ensuring that umpires and referees across Asia continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, consistency, and integrity in badminton.
