Indonesia take women’s doubles title in Badminton Asia Junior Championships

Indonesia celebrated success in the women's doubles final with fourth-seeded Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Ribka Sugiarto defeating Malaysia's third seeds Pearly Tan Koong Le with a 21-12, 21-16 win.

It was an anti-climax for the Malaysians who are the Dutch Open champions and were favourites for the title. But it all ended in 20 minutes.

"Our opponents read our match strategies to beat us. Yes. We were service faulted in the game but it is not the factor or excuse for the defeat," said Pearly Tan after the defeat.

For the Indonesians, the title came as a surprise but with the vociferous home fans drove them on.

"Our initial target was only the quarter-finals. But all that changed when we made the semi-finals. This win is for the people of Indonesia," said a delighted Ribka after the match.
