Thailand in line for a double in women’s singles in Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Junior Championships

Thailand put themselves in line for a double in the women's singles after both their top seeds Benyapa Aimsaard (Under-17) and Thamonwan Nithittikrai (Under-15) reached the final after winning the respective semi-final matches played at the Mandalar Thiri Multi-Purpose Stadium in Mandalay on Saturday, the Thai aces wrapped their matches in straight games.

Aimsaard booked her gold medal match in 38 minutes with a 21-16, 21-17 win over Japan's Kaoru Sugiyama. 

In the final, on Sunday the lanky Thai is up against Indonesia's Aisyah Sativa Fatetani who was equally impressive in her 21-12, 21-13 win over India's Aditi Bhatt in 25 minutes.

The losing semi-finalists will take home the bronze medal.

In the Under-15 semifinals, Nithittikrai settled for a 21-18, 21-12 win against Korea's Kim Ae Lin in a 36-minute match. 

Hina Akechi kept Japan's flag flying in the Under-15 category, carving out a 21-16, 21-14 victory in 30 minutes to deny Indonesia's Deswanti Hujansih Nurtertiati.

"I hope to win the title for Japan. It has been a good tournament for me so far and I hope to end it on a high note," Akechi.
