It was an attention-grabbing day in the men's singles semi-finals in the Badminton Asia Under-17 & Under-15 Junior Championships at the Mandalar Thiri Multi-Purpose Stadium in Mandalay, Myanmar on Saturday.
Hong Kong China's top seed in the Under-17 men's singles Ko Shing Hei was the biggest casualty when unseeded Huang Yu Kai of Chinese Taipei ousted him out of contention with a 21-18, 21-7 win in 25 minutes.
While Shing Hei returns home with only the bronze medal as a beaten semi-finalist Yu Kai will battle for the title against Korea's Jin Yong. The unseeded Korean was also in the limelight when he put paid to Meiraba Luwang's dreams.
The third-seeded Indian could not sustain his momentum after winning the first game and went down 21-19, 16-21, 10-21 in 63 minutes.
There were also shocks in the Under-15 category with Malaysia's hope Justin Hoh Shou Wei going out of the final after a 23-21, 21-23, 21-12 defeat to unseeded Kuo Kuan Lin of Chinese Taipei.
Kuan Lin will meet Korea's Kim Byung-jae in Sunday's final. The Korean defeated India's S. Sankar Muthusamy 21-15, 21-19.
