THE BEST OF ASIA’S JR: M Fazriq Mohamad Razif (Malaysia)

M Fazriq Mohamad Razif is a Malaysian player, currently ranked #5 on BWF’s junior world ranking for men’s doubles. At just 16 years old, he’s already competed in many international and local tournaments and has 76 career wins in both men’s singles and doubles, making him one of Asia’s best junior players!

At the beginning of his career in 2017, Razif had already started off strong, reaching the semifinals with his partner Justin Hoh at the YONEX KOREA JUNIOR BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS. But it was the following year in 2018 where he became a breakout star.

Early on in 2018 at the PEMBANGUNAN JAYA RAYA JUNIOR GRAND PRIX 2018, Razif along with Hoh won silver, just losing to Indian pair Sai Vishnu PULLELA and Pranav Rao GANDHAM in the finals. However, the Malaysian duo soon became victorious at the VICTOR EXIST JAKARTA OPEN JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018 when they won the men’s doubles title against their Indonesian rivals. Not only that, but Razif also won silver in the singles category, only losing to his partner Justin Hoh 19-21, 16-21.

At the BADMINTON ASIA JUNIOR U17 & U15 CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018, Razif and Hoh won another title against Indonesian duo Muhammad Rayhan Nur FADILLAH and Marwan FAZA going all the way to the shorelines of 25-23, 12-12. The pair was also successful again at the SINGAPORE YOUTH INTERNATIONAL SERIES 2018.

In 2019 at the CELCOM AXIATA MALAYSIA JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE 2019, the pair won silver, only losing to their Malaysian counterparts Jhy Dar OOI and Roy King YAP. They reached the top of the podium again at the YONEX – SUNRISE BANGLADESH JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL SERIES 2019 after defeating their opponents 13-21, 22-20, 21-12. As a singles player, Razif also reached the semifinals in the tournament. Razif played in many other tournaments this year, including the INDIA JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL 2019 and the SINGAPORE YOUTH INTERNATIONAL SERIES 2019.

In 2020 and 2021, Razif and Hoh continued playing as a pair, but we saw Razif play more as a singles player as well. He competed in the men’s singles category in tournaments such as the YONEX DUTCH JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL 2020. YONEX GERMAN JUNIOR 2020 and the AUSTRIAN OPEN 2021.

We wish M Fazriq Mohamad Razif an even more successful year ahead. Badminton Asia will continue to support his growth as he goes on to becoming one of Asia’s best players!
