China sweep to four out of five KFF Singapore Open titles

China made it an almost clean sweep in the KFF Singapore Open 2024 when they hauled up four out of five titles following the conclusion of the event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Sunday.

In the all-China affair of the Men’s Singles, Shu Yu Qi emerged triumphant over Li Shi Feng with the former taking almost one and a half hour before raking in his fourth BWF World Tour title this year.

In spite of losing the first set 17-21, the 28-year-old recovered to win the next two sets 21-19, 21-19 to add to the Malaysian Open, India Open and also the French Open crown he won earlier.

China then followed it up with a superb performance from He Ji Ting-Ren Xiang Yu in the Men’s Doubles when they overcame seventh seeded pair from Indonesia Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

Ji Ting-Xiang Yu continued their rise in the world rankings with a straight set 21-19, 21-14 victory over Fajar-Muhammad Rian.

It was another straightforward final in the Women’s Doubles with Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan showing why they are the pair to beat when they disposed of Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida from Japan.

The top seeded Chinese duo Qing Chen-Yi Fan sidestepped Nami-Chiharu 21-15, 21-12.

China then went on to take their fourth KFF Singapore Open title this year through Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong in the Mixed Doubles.

The All-England champions Si We-Ya Qiong beat Chinese Taipei’s Yang Po-hsuan-Hu Ling fang 21-11, 21-19 for their third title this year.

It would have been a clean sweep for China but world No. 2 Chen Yu Fei just fell a little short against the world’s top shuttler An Se-young from South Korea in the final of the Women’s Singles.

The 22-year-old Gwanju native showed why she is the world No. 1 with a 21-19, 16-21, 21-12 win over Yu Fei.
