Yu Qi propels China to another stellar at Kapal Api Indonesia Open 2024

Shi Yu Qi propelled China to yet another stellar performance in the Kapal Api Indonesian Open 2024 when they romped to four of five titles in the Super1000 HSBC BWF World Tour finals that concluded on Sunday at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno in Senayan, Jakarta.

The 28-year-old celebrated his imminent rise as the world’s No. 1 with a cleverly worked victory over Denmark’s Anders Antonsen.

After taking the first set 21-9, the former All England champion dropped the second set 12-21 before recovering to win the third 21-14.

In so doing, Shu Qi has added the Kapal Api Indonesia Open title to the Men’s Singles crown of the KFF Singapore Open he won the previous week.

Youngsters Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin delivered a shocker in the all-China final of the Mixed Doubles when they overcame top seed Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong.

The world’s No. 1 duo Si Wei-Ya Qiong fell to a 11-21, 14-21 defeat to Zhen Bang-Ya Xin.

China then continued the gravy train with Chen Yu Fei’s win of the Women’s Singles after beating South Korea’s An Se-young.

In what was a repeat of their clash in the final of the KFF Singapore Open last week, this time around however, Yu Fei emerged victorious with a 21-14, 14-21, 21-18 win over top seed Se-young.

China then added the Men’s Doubles crown to their haul with Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang overcoming Man Wei Chong-Kai Wun Tee from Malaysia.

Wei Keng dropped the first set 19-21 but stayed their nerves to win the next two sets 21-16, 21-12 for the crown.

China would have made a complete sweep of all titles at the Kapal Api Indonesia Open 2024 but for their defeat in the final of the Women’s Doubles when they were denied by Baek Ha-na-Lee So-hee from South Korea.

The Korean duo stopped Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan 21-17, 21-13 for their well-deserved victory in Jakarta.
