China once again demonstrated their status as a powerhouse in world badminton, securing a clean sweep of the Hong Kong Open 2025.
The last time China took all the titles at stake was back in 2012.
In the Super 500 event at the Hong Kong Coliseum, the morning started with Wang Zhiyi triumphing over compatriot Han Yue for the Women’s Singles crown in the all-China final.

The 25-year-old Zhiyi showed that her win over Han Yue in the final of the China Open earlier was no fluke as she walked away a straight-set winner 21-14, 24-22.
It was then down to the Men’s Doubles to carry the momentum, and certainly, the pressure was on the pair of Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang to overcome China’s struggles in the Men’s Doubles since the start of the year.
After some near misses, including China’s defeat in the Men’s Doubles at the BWF World Championships, Liang and Wang finally broke through to lift the Hong Kong Open crown.

Up against Asian Games 2023 champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty from India, Liang-Wang put up a steady performance to reel in the title despite losing the first set 19-21.
The world No. 5 pair of Liang-Wang, who were runners-up at the Orleans Masters, staged a fabulous fightback to win 21-14, 21-17.
The Women’s Doubles pair of Jia Yifan-Zhang Shuxian did not go through any drama as they defeated Japan’s Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi in straight games, 21-17, 21-15.

In another all-China final of the Mixed Doubles event, world No. 2 Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping wrapped up their fifth BWF World Tour title this year when they overcame Guo Xinwa-Chen Fang Hui 21-14, 21-14.

Li Shifeng then capped off China’s absolute dominance at the Hong Kong Open by taking the Men’s Singles crown after defeating India’s Lakshya Sen in the final.
