Men’s Singles: Can China end long title drought?

China will once again be under pressure to end a prolonged drought in men’s singles. It has been since 2017 when Chen Long last lifted the title, that the host nation has tasted success in this discipline.

Second seed Shi Yuqi, widely seen as China’s best hope, will be eager to capitalise on familiar conditions. He has shown solid form this season, finishing runner-up at the Malaysia Open before retiring in the final against Kunlavut Vitidsarn due to injury. Last year, Shi enjoyed an outstanding campaign, capturing four World Tour titles, including three Super 1000 events. However, he suffered an early setback at the All England Open, exiting in the first round to Lakshya Sen.

Defending champion Kunlavut remains a major contender, while former winner Jonatan Christie added further depth to a highly competitive field.

Fresh from his impressive All England triumph, Lin Chun-yi, alongside experienced campaigners like Chou Tien-chen and former world champion Loh Kean Yew are also strong contenders.
