Singapore, with three candidates, heads a cast of 12 aspiring badminton umpires who are currently attending the Badminton Asia Regional Umpires Training Course 2019 (South East and East Asia).
China is net with two candidates while Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, and Myanmar have one candidate each.
The course which began on Nov 14 is held at the Heartbeat@Bedok – Sports Hall, Level 4.
The course is held in conjunction with the Singapore Youth International Series which is from Nov 18-24.
The course is conducted by Ms. Yau Lin Na of Malaysia and Mr. Sudhakar Vemuri of India.
Those who pass the theory and practical will be selected as candidates for next year's Badminton Asia Accreditation Course.
The Asian Badminton body is aggressively promoting the sport in all corners of the Asian continent and is determined to expand its pool of qualified umpires.
