2022 Selangor Badminton Asia Team Championships

The 2022 Selangor Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) is going to be held soon on the 15th – 20th February 2022 at Setia City Convention Centre, Malaysia, hosted by the Badminton Association of Malaysia and supported by the Selangor state government.

This tournament will serve as the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 Thomas & Uber Cup that will be held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Badminton Asia is confident to hold the 4th edition of the Team Championships in Malaysia since its first inauguration in 2016, with the lessons learned from the success of 2 back-to-back tournaments in 2021 during Covid-19 pandemic: the Thailand tournaments at the beginning of the year and the Indonesia Badminton Festival at the end of the year.

In January 2021, the Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT) hosted three back-to-back tournaments: Yonex Thailand Open (12-17 Jan), Toyota Thailand Open (19-24 Jan), and BWF World Tour Finals (27-31 Jan). Under the leadership of BAT President Madam Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, all tournaments were successfully held at the Impact Arena located in Park Kret, Nonthaburi, Bangkok. Strict health protocols were applied throughout the event as players' and officials’ safety is the top priority. This is the first time that the bubble system is introduced in an badminton event in order to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

After the success of the Thailand three-leg tournament, in November 2021, another three back-to-back tournaments took place using a bubble system as well. The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) hosted the Indonesia Badminton Festivals in Bali: Indonesia Masters (16-21 Nov), Indonesia Open (23-28 Nov), and BWF World Tour Finals (1-5 Dec). All of these tournaments were successfully held in Bali International Convention Center. The Indonesia Badminton Festival also implements the "bubble" system like the previous tournaments.

For the 2022 Selangor Badminton Asia Team Championships, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will apply strict health protocols according to the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) standard and regulations of the government of Malaysia.

Players and officials from all over Asia are going to participate and compete for the title of the best team in Asia.
