Heo Kwang-Hee is a men’s singles player from Korea who is currently ranked #30 in the BWF World Ranking. He is the highest-ranking men’s singles player in BWF World Ranking from Korea. He started his career as a professional athlete since 2004 and joined the Korean national team in 2012. He made his international debut as a badminton athlete in 2013.
Throughout his career, he also played in the mixed doubles as well as men’s doubles category. However, he eventually decided to focus and made a career in the men’s singles category which leads to him being one of South Korea’s mainstays.
In 2019, he landed on the podium of several international tournaments, including winning 2nd place at the Chinese Taipei Open 2019, 3rd place at the Hyderabad Open 2019, and Syed Modi International Badminton Championships 2019. Previously, in 2018, he has also won 3rd place at the New Zealand Open 2018.
Since 2016, Heo had the ambition to get a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He actually made it to qualify for the Olympic Games and reached the quarterfinals. He even defeated Kento Momota from Japan with a straight-set 21-15, 21-19 at the group stage. Unfortunately, he got defeated by Kevin Gordon from Guatemala in the quarterfinals.
In 2021, he won 3rd place at the French Open after defeating India’s Lakshya Sen with a score of 21-17, 21-15. We’re looking forward to seeing more of Heo Kwang Hee’s achievements!
