Liek Hou inches closer to double win at NSDF Badminton Asia Para Badminton Championships 2025

Malaysia’s Cheah Liek Hou is just a final away from landing the double in the NSDF Badminton Asia Para Badminton Championships 2025 here at Korat’s SPADT Convention Centre.

The two-time Paralympic gold medallists and a 14-time World champion has booked his place in the final of both the Men’s Singles SU5 and Doubles events.

In Para Badminton, SU5 is a standing class for athletes with impairments in their upper limbs, either on the playing or non-playing arm.

Top seed Liek Hou, who took both gold medals at the Paralympic Games in 2020 in Japan and also 2024 in France, made the final of the event after his semifinals opponent Suryo Nugroho from Indonesia retired in the third set when he was leading 11-8.

Earlier, the 37-year-old Kuala Lumpur native had taken the first set 21-12 before conceding the second set 17-21.

Hope for an all-Malaysian final was dashed when second seeded Malaysian Muhammad Fareez Anuar was denied a place in the final by Dheva Anrimusthi from Indonesia.

Dheva won in straight set 21-18, 21-9.

However, Muhammad Fareez still has a place in the final alongside Liek Hou in the Men’s Doubles SU5.

In the semifinals, top seed Muhammad Fareez-Liek Hou overcame Fang Jen-yu-Pu Gui-yu from Chinese Taipei 21-10, 21-18.
