Badminton Asia Championships 2026, Ningbo | Women’s Singles: An Se Young on a mission

World No.1 and Olympic champion An Se-young steps onto the court as the clear favourite, but with added motivation.

After falling to Wang Zhiyi in last month’s All-England final, An will be determined to claim the one major Asian title that has so far eluded her. She previously finished bronze (2022) and silver (2023).

China, however, remain a formidable force in women’s singles. Defending champion Chen Yufei and second seed Wang Zhiyi are both capable of maintaining the host nation’s dominance.

Wang has enjoyed an excellent season, highlighted by her All England victory over An, while Chen will be aiming to emulate past greats such as Ye Zhaoying and Jiang Yanjiao by securing consecutive titles.
Also expected to challenge strongly is former world champion Akane Yamaguchi.
