The focus now shifts to Jakarta
JAKARTA: With the Thomas and Uber Cup over, the spotlight now shifts to Jakarta for the BCA Indonesia Open Superseries Premier event where the world's top players will be battling for honours and more importantly, to gain the psychological edge ahead of the Rio Olympics.
A national badminton tournament was successfully held in Mongolia recently. The tournament was a success as I t managed to draw all the national members association in Mongolia. The tournament was also hosted by the Mongolia Olympic Council, which was celebrating their 60th anniversary.
REIGNING Olympic champion Li Xuerui and silver medallist Wang Yihan powered China to their 14th Uber Cup title in Kunshan, China over the weekend and in doing so sent out a clear message that they are set to dominate the Olympics in August.
Indonesia miss out on regaining Thomas Cup
KUNSHAN: Indonesia narrowly missed out on regaining the Thomas Cup after a closely contested final battle with Denmark here today. The fight went to the final tie where young Ihsan Maulana Mustofa fell to the experienced Hans-Kristian Vittinghus.
China claim 14th Uber Cup crown
KUNSHAN: The Uber Cup remained in China as the defending champions outplayed South Korea 3-1 in the final here for their 14th title in the world team event for women.
Indonesia on the verge of reclaiming Thomas Cup glory
KUNSHAN: Once the giants of the game, Indonesia are on the verge of reclaiming their place at the top of the badminton world when they face Denmark in the Thomas Cup final here Sunday.
KUNSHAN: Japan's reign as Thomas Cup champions ended here at the hands of European champions Denmark won their quarter-final match 3-2. Denmark will now face Malaysia in the semi-finals.
In the other semi-finals South Korea will face Indonesia. The Koreans scored their biggest win in a team championships when they crushed favourites and top seeds China with a 3-1 scoreline.
Massive scare for the Japanese women
UNSHAN: India gave second seeds Japan a run for their money before caving in to a 3-2 defeat in a Group D Uber Cup decider here on Wednesday. With the win, Japan completed their group fixtures unbeaten and finish at the top of the group.
Thanks to their courageous run, the Japanese will be seeded for the quarter-finals draw. India also advanced as the group runners-up.
